There are 4 types of coal:-
a.Peat-Formation of peat is the first step in the formation of coal.It contains less than 60% of carbon and high proportion of water.Cannot obtain much heat.
b.Lignite-Peat is transformed into lignite because of increasing pressure and temperature inside the earth.60 to70% of carbon is present in it.It is 2nd step of coal formation.
c.Bituminous Coal-It is the 3rd step of coal formation.Contains 70 to 90% of carbon.
d.Anthracite-It is the pure form of coal.It is hard.Contains 95% of carbon.
