To find: What are the marks in finance ?

Solution:

Let the marks in marketing and finance be x and y respectively.

By the given conditions,

3/4 x - 1/4 y = 40

or, 3x - y = 160 .....(i)

x + y = 140 ....(ii)

Adding (i) and (ii), we get

3x - y + x + y = 160 + 140

or, 4x = 300

or, x = 75

Then, y = 140 - 75 = 65

Answer: Therefore marks in finance is 65.
