Three fourth of the world is covered with water and water is renewable resource, then how is it that countries and religions around the globe suffer from water scarcity

Well as you say water indeed i a renewable resource and three fourth of the earth's surface is covered by it.But the problem is that the water in the oceans is full of salts and impurities. The more water (from the sea ) you drink the more thirsty you get. Plus you need a lot of specialised equipment to desalinate water. And hence countries are facing shortage of water
