Three friends RS T , and shared toffee from a bowl. R took 1 3/ rd of the toffees,
but returned four to the bowl. S took 1 4/ th of what was left but returned three
toffees to the bowl. T took half of the remainder but returned two back into the
bowl. If the bowl had 17 toffees left, how many toffees were originally there in
the bowl ?

Let x be no of toffees

no of toffee taken by R =x3=x3

R returned 44 to bowl

so no of toffees in bowl =2(x3)+4=2(x3)+4

S took 1414 of it

no of toffees taken by S=14(2x3+4)14(2x3+4)

S returns 33 to bowl

so no of toffees in bowl= 34(2x3+4)+3=x2+634(2x3+4)+3=x2+6

T takes 1212 of it

no of toffees taken by T = 12(x2+6)12(x2+6)

T returns 22 to bowl

no of toffees in bowl=12(x2+6)+2=x4+512(x2+6)+2=x4+5

now its given 1717 toffees left in bowl

so x4+5=17x4+5=17

x=48

ans is c
