Three friends went to a restaurant for dinner. Two of them spent ₹500 each while the third one spent ₹50 more than the average amount spent by the other two. What was the total money spent?

Let the average be x

Hence the amount spent by the 3rd person is x + 50

Hence x = (2×500) + (x+50) ÷ 3

3÷x = 1000 + x+50

3x = 1050 + x

3x-x = 1050

2x = 1050

x = 1050÷2

x = ₹525/-

total amount spent = 2 × 500 + 525 + 50 = ₹1575/-
