let the part got by C be x

By hypothesis,

assume that cake is 1 unit.

thus,

A+B+C = 1

3/8 + 1/4 + x = 1

x = 1 - 5/8

x = 3/8

the amount of cake obtained by C is 3/8 of the total cake
