Barberton Gold Mines. Of the multitude of gold mines discovered and worked in the late 1880's, four are still being mined. They are: Agnes (Company: African Pioneer Mining) New Consort, Fairview and Sheba collectively known as Barberton Mines.

a. Out of all the mines present in the Barberton town of South Africa, these four mines: Agnes, New Consort, Sheba, and Fairview, collectively called Barberton mines are mined even today.

b. Here, the first traces of alluvial gold were found( way back in 1874) and since then people kept mining here for gold.

c. The eco-friendly process of retrieving gold from the sulfide that is found surrounding the gold ore, known as BIOX( Biological oxidation) originated here.
