The government of India has incorporated several environmental laws and policies into the constitution that lay down stringent limits and guidelines for individuals, communities and organisations to conserve the Environment and mitigate the harmful impacts of human activities on the Environment and it's resources. This includes conserving forests and biodiversity.
The apex policy that focuses on the above mentioned aspects is the Environment Protection Act (1986). Every environmental policy laid down comes under this act. Apart from this, some significant environmental policies that have been undertaken by the government are:
1) Wildlife conservation act (1972)
2) Biological diversity act (2002)
3) Indian forest act (1927)
