Three people,A, B and C participate in a race. It is known that A runs the fastest followed by B followed by C. The distance over which they race is 100 meters. If A and B were to finish the race at the same time, A would start when B reaches the 10 metersmark. Similarly, if A and C were to finish the race at the same time, A would start when C reaches the 28 metersmark. If B and C were racing, how much of a distance should C run before B starts so as to ensure that they finish at the same time

Lets say distance is 100 mtr

Time taken by A = 60 second

Since A defeated B by 10 meter.. so when A was crossing the win line B covered(100-10 = 90 meter).

So B took 60 second to cover 90 meter.

Time taken by B to reach win line or time taken by B to cover 100 meter:

(60/90)*100 = 66.6 second

So B took 66.6 to reach winning line.

So while B was crossing win line on 66.6th second C covered 90 meter(100-90 second)

Time taken by C to reach win line or time taken by C to cover 100 meter:

(66.6/90)*100 = 74.04 second

Since all player are running with same speed.

Now we have time taken my each player to cover 100 meter.

Distance with which A defeated C is equal

(Distance of A in 60 second) - (distance of C in 60 second) = 100 - (100*60/74.04) = 100-81.03 = 18.96 meter

So exact answer is 18.96 meter.
