three pieces of wood measuring 55m 49m and 63m long have to be divided into planks of equal length what is the greatest possible length of each plank

All wood pieces have to be divided into planks of  equal length
⇒ the length of the plank should be the HCF of the length of wood pieces

55 = 5 x 11
49 = 7 x 7
63 = 7 x 9

HCF = 1 

So 1 m is the greatest possible length of each plank.
 If its 42 instead of 55 , then HCF = 7

and 7 m  would be the greatest possible length of each plank.
