Given:

The three charges = 5μC, 20μC and 5μC

Length of the side of the square = 0.8 m

To find:

Magnitude of electric field at corner D.

Solution:

AD = CD = 0.8 m

BD = √(0.8² + 0.8²) = 1.13 m

Electric field = kq/ r²

Where k is

q is the charge,

r is the distance from the charge of that point.

Electric field due to charge at point A = k*5*10⁻⁶ / (0.8)²

Electric field due to charge at point C = k*5*10⁻⁶ / (0.8)²

Electric field due to charge at point B = k* 20* 10⁻⁶/ (1.13)²

The value of k = 9*10⁹ Nm²/C²

After putting the value of k:

The total electric field = 9*5*10³/ 0.64 + 9*5*10³/ 0.64 + 9*20*10³/ 1.28

= 45*10³ [1/0.64 + 1/0.64 + 4/1.28]

= 45 ×10³ × 6.25

=281.25 × 10³

Therefore the magnitude of electric field at point D will be 281.25×10³N/C.
