The Ganga is one of the most river in india both from the point of views of its basins and cultural significance. It rises from gangotri glaciers near gaumukh in the UTTARKASHI district of uttarakhand. Here, it is known as baghirathi. It cuts through the central and the lesser Himalayas in narrow gorges. At devprayag, the baghirathi meets the Alkananda;then after it is known as ganga.
