Answer:

1st prize =  ₹7200

2nd prize= ₹1440

3rd prize= ₹2880

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the 1st prize be x

2nd prize=y

and 3rd prize=z

Now we know that x+y+z=14400

We also know that y= three-fifth of x

Therefore, y=3/5 of x

=3/5 × x

y=3x/5            (i)

It is given that z= two-third the value of y

z=2/3 × y         (ii)

Now, putting the value of (i) in (ii) we get:

z=2/3 × 3x/5

z=(2×3x)/(3×5)

z=6x/15            (iii)

As      x+y+z= ₹14400

By putting the value of (i) and (iii) we get:

x+(3x/5)+(6x/15)= ₹14400

3x/5 + 6x/15=    [(3x × 3) + 6x] / 15

=(9x+6x)/15

=15x/15

Therefore, x+15x/15= 14400

15x/15= x       (15 and 15 will get cancelled)

x+x=14400

2x= ₹14400

x= 14400/2

x=  ₹7200

1st prize =  ₹7200

According to (i) y=3x/15

Putting the value of x in (i) we get:

y= (3×7200)/15

y= 1440

2nd prize= ₹1440

According to (iii) z=6x/15

Putting the value of x in (iii) we get:

(6 × 7200)/15= 2880= z

3rd prize= ₹2880
