The first method is hybridization. In this process, two genetically different crops or plants are crossed to come up with a new and unique variety of crop. 

The second method is to induce genetically transformed crops. This can be done by introducing a gene with the characteristics you desire to improve the variety, and bring in, a different species altogether.
