Answer:

12 hours

Step-by-step explanation:

Three pumps working together 8 hours a day can empty a tank in 2 days. How many hours a day must 4 pumps work to empty the tank in one day?

If three pumps working together 8 hours a day can empty a tank in 2 days. it means the volume of the tank is such that it requires pumping of 3*8*2 = 48 pump-day-hours.

So if 4 pumps are to empty the same tank, they need to work:

48 pump-day-hours/4*1 pump-day, or

48 pump-day-hours/4pump-day = 12 hours.

So 4 pumps working 12 hours a day can empty the tank in one day.

Hope this helps you. Stay safe.

Hey Mate ,

Here is your answer

Three pumps working 8 hours a day can empty a tank in 2 days.

the above statement means that 3 pumps have been working for 8 hours  for 2 days .

Total hours worked = 3x8 = 24 per day

number of days = 2

Total number of hours worked = 24x2 = 48

Need To Find :

Hours required for pumps to finish the word in  1 day

= 48/4 = 12

days divide = 12/1 = 12

Hence , the number of hours in a day 4 pumps need to work is 12 hours
