SOLUTION

GIVEN

Three reservoirs contains 595 litres, 850 litres and 680 litres of water respectively.

TO DETERMINE

The maximum capacity of the container which can measure the water of reservoir in exact number of times.

EVALUATION

Here it is given that three reservoirs contains 595 litres, 850 litres and 680 litres of water respectively.

We have to find the maximum capacity of the container which can measure the water of reservoir in exact number of times.

The required maximum capacity of the container

= HCF of 595 litres, 850 litres and 680 litres

Now

595 = 5 × 7 × 17

850 = 2 × 5 × 5 × 17

680 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 5 × 17

So HCF = 5 × 17 = 85

Hence the required required maximum capacity of the container

= HCF of 595 litres, 850 litres and 680 litres

= 85 litres
