Let three resistors be R1 , R2 and R3 respectively.

a) When connected in series, Net resistance is given by \bf{R=R1+R2+R3}

So, R = 10 + 20 + 30 = 60 Ohms.

b) Now, when these resistors are connected in parallel combination.
Net resistance is given by \bf{1/R=1/R1+1/R2+1/R3}

So, 1/R = 1/10 + 1/20 + 1/30 = 11/60

or R = 60/11 Ohm
