Given : Three resistors are arranged in a circuit as shown in figure. The voltage-current graph of three resistors are  given

To Find : . The ratio of current flowing in the circuit when switch S is closed to switch S is opened,​

Solution:

R = V/I

Hence slope of graph will give resistance value

R₁ = Tan 30°  = 1/√3

R₂ = Tan 60°  = √3

R₃ = Tan 45°  = 1

When Switch S closed R₁  ║ R₃

1/R = 1/(1/√3) + 1/1

=> 1/R = √3 +  1

=> R = 1/(√3 +  1 )

=> R = (√3 -  1)/2

R₂ is in series

So Net R  =  (√3 -  1)/2 + √3   =  (3√3 - 1)/2

I = V/R  = 120/  (3√3 - 1)/2   = 240 / (3√3 - 1)

240 (3√3 + 1)/26

= 120(3√3 + 1)/13

when Switch S is open  R₁  and R₂ are in series

Net R =  1/√3  + √3   = (1 + 3)/√3  =  4/√3

I = V/R  =  120/ 4/√3   = 30√3

120(3√3 + 1)/13  : 30√3

=  4 (3√3 + 1) : 13√3

=  24.785 : 22.517

= 1.101 : 1

= 1.1  : 1
