Answer :

  • The current through 2 Ω resistor = 0.5 A
  • The current through 4 Ω resistor = 0.25 A

Explanation :

Given,

  • Three resistors of 1 Ω,2Ω and 4Ωare connected in parallel in circuit
  • 1 Ω resistor draws a current of 1A

To find,

  • the current through the other two resistors

Solution,

In parallel connection,

⮞ the total current is the sum of the currents flowing through each resistor.

⮞ the voltage across each resistor is same.

Let

  • R₁ = 1 Ω
  • R₂ = 2 Ω
  • R₃ = 4 Ω

Let the current through 1 Ω, 2 Ω and 4 Ω be I₁ , I₂ and I₃ respectively and voltage be "V"

⇒ I₁ = 1 A (Given)

Ohm's law,

V = IR

First resistor,

R₁ = 1 Ω

I₁ = 1 A

V = I₁R₁

V = (1)(1)

V = 1 V

Second resistor,

R₂ = 2 Ω

V = 1 V

I₂ = ?

V = I₂R₂

  1 = I₂ × 2

  I₂ = 1/2

  I₂ = 0.5 A

Third Resistor,

R₃ = 4 Ω

V = 1 V

I₃ = ?

V = I₃R₃

1 = I₃ × 4

I₃ = 1/4

I₃ = 0.25 A

Therefore,

  • The current through 2 Ω resistor = 0.5 A
  • The current through 4 Ω resistor = 0.25 A

1 Ω resistor draws a current of 1A

To find,

the current through the other two resistors

Solution,

In parallel connection,

⮞ the total current is the sum of the currents flowing through each resistor.

⮞ the voltage across each resistor is same.

R₂ = 2 Ω

R₃ = 4 Ω

Let the current through 1 Ω, 2 Ω and 4 Ω be I₁ , I₂ and I₃ respectively and voltage be "V"

⇒ I₁ = 1 A (Given)

★ Ohm's law,

V = IR

★ First resistor,

R₁ = 1 Ω

I₁ = 1 A

➟ V = I₁R₁

V = (1)(1)

V = 1 V

★ Second resistor,

R₂ = 2 Ω

V = 1 V
