Answer:

In this question, we have been asked to find the potential difference across the given combination as well as current through each resistance.

Explanation:

Given: Value of resistances, R₁ = 8 Ω, R₂ = 12 Ω and R₃ = 24 Ω.

           Current being = 20 A

To Find:

  1. Potential difference across the combination.
  2. Current through each resistance.

Now, for the 1. part:

We have to find Potential difference across the system.

We know that,                        V = IR

where, V = potential difference, I = total current and R = total resistance.

As this is a parallel combination, current will be distributed in each branch and potential will remain same.

Hence,    V = 20 × (8+12+24)

               V = 20 × 44

               V = 880 Volts

Now, 2. part:

We have to find current across each branch.

We know,                                  I = \frac{V}{R}

Hence,                        I_{1} = \frac{V}{R_{1} } , I_{2} = \frac{V}{R_{2} } , I_{3} = \frac{V}{R_{3} }

Therefore, I₁ = \frac{880}{8}

                    = 110 A

                  I₂ = \frac{880}{12}

                    = 73.3 A

                  I₃ = \frac{880}{24}

                      = 36.5 A
