Answer

  • Current , I = 3 Amperes

Given

  • Three resistors of values 6 ohms, 9 ohms and 18 ohms are connected in parallel with a 9 v battery

To Find

  • Net current

Solution

When the resistances are connected in parallel ,

\bf \dfrac{1}{R_{eq}}=\dfrac{1}{R_1}+\dfrac{1}{R_2}+\dfrac{1}{R_3}+...

Here ,

\bf R_1=6\ \Omega\\\\\bf R_2=9\ \Omega\\\\\bf R_3=18\ \Omega

\implies \bf \dfrac{1}{R_{eq}}=\dfrac{1}{6}+\dfrac{1}{9}+\dfrac{1}{18}\\\\\bf \implies \dfrac{1}{R_{eq}}=\dfrac{1}{6}+\dfrac{1}{6}\\\\\implies \bf R_{eq}=3\ \Omega

Voltage , V = 9 V

Now , Apply Ohm's law ,

\implies \bf V=IR_{eq}\\\\\implies \bf 9=I(3)\\\\\implies \bf I=3\ Amperes

So , net current is 3 Amperes
