Hi

Kathakali is one of the major forms of classical Indian dance. It is a "story play" genre of art, but one distinguished by the elaborately colorful make-up, costumes and facemasks that the traditionally male actor-dancers wear.

The stories are told by three groups of performers: the actors (who do not speak), the percussionists, and the vocalists. Traditionally, the actors were all males, but that has evolved so that both men and women can perform the Kathakali dance.
