Three small identical balls have charges –3 × 10−12 C, 8 × 10−12 C and 4 × 10−12 C
respectively. They are brought in contact and then separated. Calculate (i) charge on

Given : Three small identical balls have charges –3 × 10¯¹²C, 8 × 10¯¹²C and 4 × 10¯¹² C

respectively. They are brought in contact and then separated.

To find : charges on each ball = average charge

= (-3 × 10¯¹²C + 8 × 10¯¹² + 4 × 10¯¹²)/3

= 3 × 10¯¹² C

Therefore charge on each ball is 3 × 10¯¹² C

since the charge is positive, electrons are removed from each ball. i.e., electrons in deficit on each ball after contact.

number of electrons in deficit = 3 × 10¯¹²/(1.6 × 10¯19)

= 1.875 × 10^7
