X have a pH 4.8

hence, solution X is acidic

so, blue litmus will change into red and red litmus will not have any change.

Y has a pH 7 and hence, it is neutral

so, blue and red litmus will not have any change or will turn purple.

Z has a pH 11.5 hence, it is a base

so, blue litmus will not have any effect but red litmus will change into blue.

hope it helps....

a) 4.8 -> acid.

(red litmus: no change;

Blue litmus: blue to red)

b) 7 -> neutral (no changes occurs in the litmus paper)

c) 11.5 -> alkaline.

(red litmus: red to blue;

Blue litmus: no change).
