Three students Ankit Asmit and Anup are visiting a library. In which they found four tables, two wooden racks full of books and the window in front of them, which is in the shape of a trapezium (Fig - 1) i) How many pairs of parallel lines are there? - 13 pairs ii) Name any two pairs of parallel lines. CDUAB, AD11 BC . iii) How many pairs of intersecting lines are these? iv) Name any two pairs of intersecting lines.
Answers
Solution :-
In library we have,
→ Tables = 4
→ Wooden racks = 2
→ Window = 1 = In shape of trapezium .
So,
→ Pair of parallel lines in a table = 2
→ Pair of parallel lines in 4 tables = 2 * 4 = 8
and,
→ Pair of parallel lines in a wooden rack = 2
→ Pair of parallel lines in 2 wooden racks = 2 * 2 = 4
and,
→ Pair of parallel lines in trapezium window = AD || EF, AD || GH, AD || BC, EF || GH, EF || BC and GH || BC = 6
then,
→ Total pair of parallel lines = 8 + 4 + 6 = 18 .
and ,
→ Two pair of parallel lines are = AD || EF and AD || GH .
now,
→ Total pair of intersecting lines are = BG and CH , BE and CF, BA and DC , GE and HF , GA and HD , EA and FD = Total 6 { Because they are not parallel and they will intersect each other when extended towards A and D . }
then,
→ Two pairs of intersecting lines are = BG and CH , BE and CF .
