While world leaders are conspiring against factories that emit dangerous ozone-eaters, People’s Forest Project has a great meaning and relevance. People’s Forest Project, in the simplest terms, is an initiative that makes it mandatory for every citizen to plant ten trees in a specially allotted, publicly or privately owned land. It requires every child on his/her passing the class 10th examination to plant these 10 trees. Apart from planting, the child will have to take care of these trees for two years. The most important aspect is, when the child seeks a college admission or a driver’s licence, he/she has to produce a ‘health certificate’ of these trees. One of the most frequently noted benefits of PFP is the togetherness and sociability it facilitates. Suppose a particular location has been allotted to your residential colony for planting saplings. How about the whole colony spending a few hours together in your ‘forest,’ planting, watering, fertilizing and a little dancing and cooking? That will be more and real fun than just your facebook and whatsapp!
