three tumblers A, B, C with capacities in the ratio 2:4:5 are filled mixtures of milk and water. the ratio of milk and water are 5:1, 5:3 and 7:3 respectively. if the contents of the three are mixed in a vessel, what would be the ratio of milk and water in the vessel?​

Solution:

Milk in 1 liter mixture of A = 4/7 liter.

Milk in 1 liter mixture of B = 2/5 liter.

Milk in 1 liter mixture of C = 1/2 liter.

By rule of allegation we have required ratio X:Y  

  X  :  Y

4/7  :  2/5

           (Mean ratio)

                 (1/2)

(1/2 – 2/5)     :       (4/7 – 1/2)

     1/10                      1/1 4

So Required ratio is

                                =  X : Y

                               = 1/10 : 1/14

                                = 7:5
