Every culture has different practices and sometimes these practices hamper the health of individuals by causing anxiety and stress.

  • Culture is a set of ideas and customs shared by a particular community or a group of people and is constantly evolving.
  • The ways in which cultural practices cause ill health are -
  1. Children also strive to be 'between cultures'—the 'old' and the 'new' mix. They belong fundamentally to both, while their parents mostly belong primarily to the 'old' culture creating stress in children's mind.
  2. In Hinduism, there is a practice of fasting. Some people fast for one day while some people fast for too many days. Sometimes this causes serious health effects.
  3. Many people learn martial arts which is a form of cultural practice. Martial arts are used for combat, but during the learning process many individuals hurt themselves.
