Time and Work Problem

Given:

All three workers produce 144 dyes in four hours.

Amy can produce as many dyes more than Barry as Barry can produce more than Stuart.

Amy can produce as many dyes in 5 hours as Stuart can in seven hours.

To find:

Difference between the number of dyes produced by Barry and Stuart per hour.

Explanation:

Let the dyes produced per hour by Amy be x.

Let the dyes produced per hour by Barry be y.

Let the dyes produced per hour by Stuart be z.

According to question,

x+y+z=\frac{144}{4} \\=>x+y+z=36  --------------------equation(i)

x=y+(y-z)\\x=2y-z-----------------------equation(ii)

\\5x=7z -----------------------equation(iii)

On solving equation (i), (ii),(ii), we get

x=14\\y=12\\z=10

Hence, the difference between the number of dyes produced by Barry and Stuart per hour is (y-z)= (12-10)=2 .
