Answer:

present age of the brothers = 9 and 11 years

age of the elder brother = 11 years

Step-by-step explanation:

let present ages of the brothers = x and y

3 years ago their ages = x-3 and y-3

given, (x-3) - (y-3) = 2

=> x-3-y+3 = 2

=> x-y = 2

=> x = y+2 -----(1)

10 years later their ages = x+10 and y+10

it is also given, (x+10) + (y+10) = 2(x+y)

=> x+y+20 = 2x+2y

=> x+y = 20

=> y+2+y = 20 [putting value of x from (1)]

=> 2y = 20-2 = 18

=> y = 9

=> x = y+2 = 9+2 = 11

So, present age of the brothers = 9 and 11
