Consider B’s present age as x years. So age of A is 2x years. 3 years ago, B’s age was (x-3) years, and A’s age was (2x-3)years. The equation for the age relation 3 years ago is,

3 B’s age = A’s age.

So, 3(x-3)= 2x -3.

3x-9 = 2x - 3.

x = 6.

So, B’s age is 6 years. And as A is twice as old as B at present. Therefore, A’s present age is 12 years.
