Given:

Three years ago Atul's age was four times parul's age. After 5 years from now, age of Atul will be twice Parul's age.

To find:

Their present ages.

Explanation:

Let Atul's age be R years &

Let Parul's age be M years.

  • Three years ago:

A/q

→ R-3=4(M-3)

→ R-3= 4M-12

→ R-4M=-12+3

→ R-4M= -9......................(1)

Now,

  • After Five years :

→ R+5=2(M+5)

→ R+5= 2M+10

→ R -2M=10-5

→ R-2M= 5..........................(2)

Using Substitution Method:

From equation (1),we get;

⇒ R-4M= -9

⇒ R= -9+4M.....................(3)

Putting the value of R in equation (2),we get;

⇒ -9+4M -2M=5

⇒ -9 +2M=5

⇒ 2M= 5+9

⇒ 2M= 14

⇒ M= \frac{\cancel{14}}{\cancel{2}} =7\:years

Putting the value of M in equation (3),we get;

⇒ R= -9+4(7)

⇒ R= -9+28

⇒ R= 19 years.

Thus,

  • Present age of Atul's,R= 19 years
  • Present age of Parul's,M= 7 years.
