The green revolution introduced the Indian farmer to HYV seeds, chemical fertilisers and tube well irrigation.though this has helped India in becoming self sufficient in food grains, the green revolution is also credited with reducing the fertility of the soil and thus farmers need to buy more fertilisers to keep up the same level of production thus pushing up the cost of farming.As most of India's farmers are small farmers they often have to borrow money to procure materials essential for his production and as the yield may give him a poor amount barely needed for his subsistence the farmer has to borrow once again thus falling into the debt trap.
