The Main reasons for the failure of the 1857 Revolt:-
- The 1857 revolt was completely Unplanned:-The revolt lacked vision,strategy and discipline.
- Arms and Ammunition was outdated:The Indians used pick axes as there weapons .Also Indians have limited food,grains,livestock .It is appropriate to say that Indians lacked funds and resources.
- The 1857 Revolt was led by Sepoy and peasants-The upper class (Zamindars) and the middle class did not participate in this revolt rather they played a key role in suppressing the revolt.They even provided men,capital and grains to the Britishers.
- The important leaders of the revolt like Kunwar singh,Tantia Tope,Begum Of Awadh ,Jhasi Ki Rani were either killed or exiled.In the absence of leader the rebels lost their vision and were clueless about how to move ahead.
- Britian was economically advance than India and it incurred heavy cost in suppressing the Revolt and the cost incurred on suppressing the revolt was obtained from Indian through heavy taxation
