To become a Judge at the Supreme court, the following criteria should be met according to the Article 124 (3) of the Indian constitution:-
1. The person should be an Indian citizen.
2. Should have served as a judge at any High court for a minimum of 5 years.
3. Should have served as an advocate in a High court for a minimum of 10 years.
A supreme court judge retires after completion of 65 years of age and after retirement, they are not allowed to carry out any kind of legal practice.
After the current hike in salaries, the judges of Supreme court has been raised by 60% and so, they get a salary of Rs. 2.50 lakh per month. They are also provided with rent-free accommodation while they are still in service.
According to the 7th Pay Commission, the pension and gratuity of the Supreme court judges has been hiked accordingly with their increased salaries.
