Examples:-

Here my friend loves is a finite verb and to eat is a non finite verb.

Infinitives

Non finite verbs that use "to" before them are called infinitives.

Examples:-

  • Please try to understand my situation.

Participles

The verbs that have 'ing' or 'ed' as suffixes and function as adjectives are called participles.

Examples:-

  • I purchased a talking doll for my sister.
  • This is a stout walking stick.

Gerunds

These are the verbs+ing forms that are used as nouns in a sentence.

Examples:-

  • Reading is my passion.
  • He is fond of swimming.

Primary auxiliary

The three main primary auxiliary verbs are:-do, be and have.

Exmaples:-

  • I do not like to eat pasta.
  • They have signed the contract.

Modal auxiliary

Modal auxiliaries are verbs which are used before the main verb to express ability, possibility, obligation, permission, suggestion, request, certainty or necessity. They indicate the attitude, intention and the mood of the speaker.

Examples:-

  • He should visit the library regularly.
  • I may visit Jaipur next week.
