Tie a stone to one end of a string. Take the other end in your hand and rotate the string so that the stone moves along a circle as shown in figure 1.2 a. Are you applying any force on the stone? In which direction is this force acting? How will you stop this force from acting? What will be the effect on the stone?

Answer:

Explanation: move the hand in the opposite direction to slow down and gradually the speed decreases and stops however the force is applied on the string and not on the stone

Answer:

a.we are applying centripital force on it. the force  is applied right angle so the body wil move in clock wise direction .to stop   move the stone in opposite direction because the force is applied  by the string.

Explanation

In order for it to follow a circular path without changing speed, a continuous centripetal force must be applied at a right angle to its path. ... In the case of a rotating system, the centripetal force pulls the mass inward to follow a curved path. .When the stone is at point B, its speed is directed towards south. And if the stone is released when it is at point B, it will fly off in the south direction. That is when a body moves in a circular path, the direction of speed is not the same at any two pointspears to push outward due to its inertia.t
