Glucose is the simplest and the purest form of energy. It uses no energy from the body when it is ingested because it requires no digestion. There are certain conditions when glucose is artificially required by the body.

A person who has a temporary illness, severely injured to point they can't take food and can’t swallow, needs nutrients and water. In these conditions artificial hydration and nutrition which is directly dispensed into the bloodstream as glucose IV, can help prevent dehydration and help the patient recover from his or her illness
