Some people have wrong impression that making a speech is an
ordinary job and requires no specific art. When we watch people
swimming in a pool, we think that there is nothing difficult about it
but we get to know the gravity of the situation as we actually jump in
the tank and swim Similarly when we hear a speaker addressing an
audience, we do not properly appreciate his hardship. We get to
know the difficulties involved when we take the floor during a
public debate ourselves and face the gathering. The first and the fore
most task of the speaker is to get over the stage fright. Unless he
succeeds in doing this he cannot make a good speech in spite of the
best preparation. The floor appears to be sliding from under his feet.
