In 1820. a lovely little girl was born to doctor and Mrs Nightingale She was named Florence who
an extremely shy child
As she grew up, her mother would take her along to visit poor and needy fansies. One day they wild
very sick woman who did not want to be put in hospital. This was because hospitals in those days
were unpleasant places to be in When Florence was 17, she decided to become a nurse and gave her lite
for the sick and the poor
She studied nursing and was made superintendent of the hospital in Londen in 1853 Then war broke
out in Crimea and she, along with 38 nurses, went there to make the soldiers more comfortable. She
saved the lives of thousands by her splendid nursing. She fell ill but sbe kept on working When she was
well again, she returned to England and opened the Nightingale School for Nurses to train other young
worpen Florence lived till 90 years The soldiers of the Crimean War called her the lady with the
Lamp because she would come to their bedside at night with a lanters to check on them.
