Answer:

Depth of sea is 6300 m.

Explanation:

Given,

Time in which the sonar fitted on a ship records an echo is 8.4 second.

Velocityof sound in water is 1500m/s.

To find: Depth of the sea

Solution,

Let the depth of sea be d.

Here, Since, there is a echo, so the sound will travel distance 'd' to the sonar and come with the same distance 'd' to the ship.

So total distance would be 2d.

Thereby, Speed of sound in water = 2*distance travelled / time

or, v = 2d / t

here, v = 1500 m/s, t = 8.4 s

Substituting the values,

1500 = 2d / 8.4

d = 1500*8.4/2

d =  12600 / 2

d = 6300 m

Therefore, Depth of sea is 6300 m.

Answer:

velocity of sound in seawater into ttime upon 2

= 1500 into 8.4 by 2 =6300m
