Two main diseases found in silk worms are

1. Grasserie is a viral disease in silkworms

It is caused by Nuclear polyhedrosis, Cytoplasmic polyhedrosis and infectious flacherie.

This results in yellowness of the integument and accumulation of fluid in the body.

(2) Protozoan Pebrine:

It is caused by Nosema bombycis.

It affects both the larva and adult.

The adult shape gets irregular, shrinks and larva becomes small in size.

Death of larvae occurs before the formation of cocoons.

For protection, only eggs from healthy worms should be used.
