Measuring the key elements of value is what drives desired results. In business, measures of the process tell the story of profit. The same is true for safety: defining what the safety process is all about (“… the capacity to do work” – thank you, Ron Gantt) develops the measures that lead to safety value. We should see a greater number of process-placed measures with declining positives or negatives (whatever the case may be) to know that what we are doing is driving towards the desired outcome.
