Answer:

  • There were two significant periods for the Abbasid Caliphate. From 750-1258 CE the first era lasted. The Abbasids were powerful leaders during this era who governed a vast land and developed a culture often referred to as Islam's Golden Age.
  • A time of peace and prosperity was the early part of the Abbasid rule. In many fields of science, mathematics, and medicine, great progress has been produced. Higher education schools and libraries have been constructed across the empire. Culture flourished as new heights were reached by Arab art and architecture. From around 790 CE to 1258 CE, this era lasted. It is often called Islam's Golden Age.
  • The early 1200s saw the increase in eastern Asia of the Mongolian Empire.  At the time, the Caliph believed that it was impossible to conquer Baghdad and refused to meet the demands of the Mongols. The Mongols ' leader, Hulagu Khan, laid siege to the town. Baghdad had surrendered in less than two weeks and the Caliph was put to death.
  • From Cairo, Egypt, the Abbasids were reclaimed the Caliphate in 1261. A “band of former slave warriors” called the Mamluks was the true power in Egypt.  The Mamluks, while the Abbasids had power over the religion of Islam, ruled the government and armies. They governed the Caliphate together from Cairo until the Ottoman Empire conquered them in 1517 .
