Tina is 3 times as old as her little brother Yuvraj, but in 3more years, she will be only twice as old as Yuvraj will be then. Find their present ages.

Let Tina's age be x years and Yuvraj's age be y years.
So, x = 3y and
x+3 = 2(y+3)

since, the age of tina is 3 times the age of yuvraj .
present age of yuvraj = x
present age of tina = 3 × x = 3x
after 3 years :
age of yuvraj = ( x + 3 ) yrs
age of tina = (3x + 3 ) yrs
according to the statement :
( 3x + 3 ) = 2 × ( x + 3 )
3x + 3 = 2x + 6
3x - 2x = 6 - 3
x = 3 yrs
therefore ,
present age of yuvraj = x = 3 yrs
present age of tina = 3 x = 3 × 3 = 9 yrs
