). Cutting or shaving the wool off of a sheep is called shearing. Shearing doesn't usually hurt a sheep. It's just like getting a hair cut. However, shearing requires skill so that the sheep is shorn efficiently and quickly without causing cuts or injury to the sheep or shearer.

) Silk is manufactured from the cocoons of silkworms whereas wool is manufactured from the fur of furry animals like goats. ... The key difference between silk and wool is wools ability to retain warmth. Although fabrics made from both silk and wool are able to retain warmth, wool is a better insulator of heat than silk.

) The difference between raw silk and spun silk are-: Raw silk is silk containing a gummy substance called sericin. Some of the sericin is removed by boiling the silk in soap and water. Spun silk is made from short lengths obtained from damaged cocoons or broken off during processing, twisted together to make yarn.

) The life cycle of a Silk Worm. The silkworm is the larva stage of the silk moth's life cycle. Moths lay eggs which develop into the silkworm larvae, grub or caterpillar (commonly called silkworms). They eat for 20-30 days, consuming large amounts of mulberry leaves, and molt through four changes of skin or 'instars'.

) Sericin is a protein or the silk gum produced by the silk worm which holds the silk filaments together. To soften the sericin, the cocoons are immersed in cold and hot water . This softens the sericin and maked the silk filaments thread like.
