First, make the outline of the specimen of which you are making sketch.

Second, start shading shadow of the specimen (or the dark coloured parts), and go on lightening the shade.

Note that you should smudge the shades, so that it looks realistic...

At last, outline the parts where you have shaded dark, so that we can point the part out of the shade....
