They are meristematic tissue. The name meristem comes from the Greek word meristos which means to divide. This name was given by a scientist names Nageli. Meristematic tissues are classified based on their origin as 1. primary meristem, 2. secondary meristem.
and based on their position as 1. apical meristem, 2. intercalary meristem and 3. lateral meristem.
