Answer :

' A Grain of Wheat'  is a historical novel by Kenyan author, Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o . The title of the book has been taken from the Gospel According to St. John, 12:24 which states that 'Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.'

The title symbolizes that just like the planting of a grain of wheat brings about the subsistence of the whole community, the death of the protagonist, Mugo, brings about the unification of the whole Kenyan community against the British colonial rule. This unification bears fruit and leads to the Kenyan independence.
