Sadao was a Japanese doctor and scientist who was also a great patriot.

There was a war going on between Japan and America. For the Japanese, all Americans were considered enemies.

One day an American was washed up in front of his house. He was a prisoner of war and deeply wounded. As a doctor, Sadao should try to save his life while as a true Japanese, he should hand him over to the police. Sadao was in a conflict of duties.

He decided to save his life because he was trained not to let a person die if could, even if he hated all Americans. On top of that as a dutiful citizen, he also informed the army general officer about the Americans.

Thus in choosing between professional loyalty and patriotism Dr Sadao,  succeeded in betraying neither.
